Donetsk – more buildings destroyed

Despite the latest (temporarily failed) efforts to find a peaceful solution for the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and fragile ceasefire agreements, fighting in the Donbass region and especially the area of Donetsk continues and leaves more buildings and infrastructure destroyed.

George B translated an article from Russian online news center Vzglyad that tells more on the damages due to fighting in Donetsk.

Vzglyad, 28 December 2014, translated by George B:

Donetsk Сity Сouncil reports the destruction of more buildings due to combat operations

Donetsk Сity Сouncil has reported that during the second half of the day the situation in the city remains tense; some buildings have been destroyed as a result of combat operations.

“During the second half of the day the situation in Donetsk remains tense – salvos of heavy weapons fire can be heard periodically throughout the city and some buildings have been destroyed as a result of combat,’ it is stated in the release from the city council, reports RIA Novosti.

The city administration notes that there are no casualties and that workers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations attended the scene of the occurrence.

Notwithstanding the declaration at the beginning of September, and confirmation in December of cessation of hostilities, combat operations are continuing in Donbass. Both sides accuse the other of breaching the ceasefire. The skirmishes take place against the backdrop of agreements to the removal of heavy weaponry and exchange of prisoners.
